The session, which is for middle school girls (6th, 7th, and 8th grades), aims to showcase the many diverse, exciting, and creative fields that comprise engineering, encouraging students to begin thinking of pursuing engineering in their futures.

Who should register for MSV?

MSV is geared towards girls in middle school, from 6th to 8th grade. High school girls interested in a similar event should check out the High School Visitation (HSV) event page.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where is the event held?

This program is held at the University of Virginia in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in Charlottesville, VA. The initial meeting place will be the Mechanical Engineering building. Parking information will be sent out to participants approximately one week before the event.

Are boys allowed to attend this event?

This program targets young girls and we are unfortunately unable to accept boys to our event. However, UVA’s Center for Diversity in Engineering offers a variety of programs for all students during the summer. For more information, visit: http://www.seas.virginia.edu/admin/diversity/

Can parents attend? Do I have to stay with my child during the event?

Parents drop off their daughter for the afternoon and pick them up at the end. At the end of the event we will have a brief student panel for the parents to ask questions about engineering at UVA while they wait for their daughters to wrap up. We are unable to accommodate parents during the actual event due to limited room capacities. If you have specific concerns please contact us at uvasweoutreach@gmail.com.

Does my child need to bring anything to the event?

All materials will be provided. We will be providing pizza and refreshments for lunch, so if your child has a food allergy, please be sure to have them bring an alternate meal.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at uvasweoutreach@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and we hope to hear from you soon!
