About

The Society of Women Engineers is a national professional organization that aims to support and promote women in achieving their full potential in engineering careers. National SWE awards scholarships and holds the world's largest conference and career fair for women engineers each year. The SWE section at UVA has three areas of focus: outreach, professional development, and community building.

SWE @ UVA offers outreach programs tailored towards girls in elementary, middle, and high school. These programs are designed to spark enthusiasm for engineering by providing hands-on activities, engaging design challenges, enlightening tours, and inspiring guest speakers. While our primary focus is on encouraging girls to explore engineering, we enthusiastically welcome anyone with a passion for the field to participate.

We support the professional development of our members through a variety of events including interviewing workshops, resume reviews, major advising, company information sessions, and the national and regional SWE conferences.

We aim to foster a strong sense of community for our members through our mentorship family program, which encourages involvement and cross-class interaction. Additionally, we host many fun social events throughout the year, including pumpkin painting, apple picking, hiking, and stress-busting exercise classes. These events provide opportunities for our members to get to know each other and build long-lasting networks in an environment beyond the classroom.

"A world with gender parity and equality in engineering and technology."
