Learn about Vehicle Crash Tests! Chat with an IIHS Engineer

We will be holding a coffee chat with Becky Mueller, a mechanical engineer at the IIHS Vehicle Research Center and former collegiate SWE member at the University of Wisconsin. IIHS, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, conducts vehicle crash tests to ensure safety on the roads. Free food and beverages will be provided!

Each year around Halloween, Lawn residents open up their doors and hand out candy to the kids of Charlottesville! This year, SWE will have a table on the South Lawn where we (along with other UVA CIOs), will also be handing out candy! The event will take place on Friday, October 30 from 4-6 PM.

 

In order to make this a success, we need your help! Please fill out this form by Wednesday, October 28 at noon if you are interested in helping out. Remember, volunteering for this event counts towards your 5 attendance points required for section membership! Also, if you would like/are able to bring a bag of candy to share with the kids, that would be fantastic as well!

SWE is sponsoring a dinner with professionals from Kurt Salmon who will offer advice on communication in the corporate world. This discussion will broach crucial topics such as being heard as a woman in a male dominated industry. Research shows that even experienced and well merited women are more hesitant to speak up than their male counterparts.
