Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.

SWE Officers

President - Anna Cerf

Serves as the liaison between nationals, regionals, faculty advisor, and SWE advisor. Is the POC for CDE and Eschool and holds monthly check-ins with CDE. Plans board / exec agendas by emailing on Friday and Sunday with agenda, requests for SWEekly, and notification of who will be absent and sending board agenda to non-board on Sunday. Runs General Body meetings and sends SWEekly. Ensures others are carrying out their duties by sending initial expectations doc to each officer and holds check-ins -- Sept / October, winter break, late Feb. Also oversees institutional memory and by running SWE Google Drive, Collab site.

 

Anna is a fourth-year Civil and Environmental Engineering major and Urban Planning minor from Minneapolis, Minnesota. In addition to SWE she is a student employee for UVA's the Office for Sustainability. In her spare time Anna enjoys hiking, watching movies, and petting dogs on the lawn.

Vice President of Administration - Kiri Nicholson

 

Deals with the logistics of meetings such as room reservations and makes sure each admin (non-outreach) officer is fulfilling her duties. Plans logistics -- hotels, attendees, travel -- of National and Regional conference. Also heads mentorship by initiating mentorship sign-ups and plans mentorship-specific events.
 

Kiri is a fourth year computer engineering student from Springfield, VA.  Outside of SWE, Kiri is also a member of AΩΕ, the engineering sorority on Grounds.  Kiri is passionate about building up others and establishing a strong mentorship program within SWE.  In her free time, Kiri enjoys reading, cooking, writing, and working out.

Vice President of Outreach - Megan Mazzatenta

 

Is the POC for new outreach opportunities. Increases external publicity for outreach events by contacting local media. Also contacts sponsors and build relationships by following-up with companies that reach out to us about hosting Corporate events. Applies for grants / awards on behalf of SWE outreach. Oversees outreach chairs by stepping in to help plan as-needed and establishing times for check-in or status updates.

 

Megan is a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering major from Ashburn, Virginia. She is interested in innovating ways to bring STEM education to younger students and has planned outreach events for both SWE and the Alpha Omega Epsilon engineering sorority. Outside of the engineering school, Megan loves to run, learn about history, and go to as many Virginia sporting events as possible!

Corporate Relations - Judy Nguyen

 

Serves POC for employers looking to network with SWE and works with VPO to pursue funding from interested companies. Coordinates and manages events with companies and caters to diverse interests and majors of SWE members. Reaches out to Career Development office and E-school front office to publicize corporate events to non-SWE members. Leads Engineering Career Fair efforts and encourages underclassmen to attend.

 

Judy is a fourth year systems engineering student minoring in computer science and biomedical engineering. Like the majority of UVA, she is from NoVA (Herndon, to be specific). Outside of her engagements in SWE, she is involved in Alternative Spring Break, Housing & Residential Life, human factors research, and random acts of volunteering. Her hobbies include- but are not limited to: nature, cooking, working out, attempting Pinterest DIY's, browsing Spotify playlists, and uncoordinated dancing. Treasurer - Rebecca Della Croce

 

Handles the monetary aspects of the organization including managing the SWE bank account, writing reimbursement checks for executive members, and planning national conference. Responsible for approving spending based on money available in the bank account and on the drafted budget for the school year. Drafts the budget for each semester and goes through the appropriations process for Student Council. Also files an annual financial report for nationals.

Rebecca is a third year Biomedical Engineering student from Hillsborough, New Jersey. She hopes to go on to medical school and work as a pediatric oncologist. Besides SWE, she enjoys participating in University Dance Club and research in the biomedical engineering department. She also enjoys running, cooking, and spending time with friends in her spare time.

Secretary - Katherine Ellis

 

Takes care of administrative duties such as the list serve, national membership and official meeting minutes. Maintains communication with SWE alumni. Helps keep the executive board organized and running efficiently as well as aid in the planning and running of most events.

Katherine is a mechanical engineer with a business minor from Chevy Chase, Maryland. Along with SWE, she is involved with UVA Club Running, ULink Peer advising, and is in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She hopes to use what she learns at UVA to make the world more sustainable and reduce the threat of climate change.

Fundraising & Merchandise - Marissa Marine

 

Tracks inventory and money in/out for merch sales (spreadsheet). Orders prizes and gifts (membership + outreach events). Organizes one apparel package per semester. Pursues other fundraising options (restaurants, item sales, etc.).

Marissa is a second year biomedical engineering major from Commack, New York. She is also a member of Best Buddies and Engineering Student Council. She enjoys traveling, going to the beach, playing soccer, and watching movies.

Lily is a third year systems engineering and math double major from Warrenton, Virginia. In addition to SWE, she is a member of the Virginia Alpine Ski and Snowboarding Team, volunteers at a local elementary school through Madison House, ULink Peer Advising, and is a sister of Alpha Omega Epsilon. In her free time, she loves attending UVA sporting events, cooking, and playing with dogs.

Mary is a second year computer engineering student from Charlottesville. She also assists as a teaching assistant in the Introduction to Programming courses for first years. In addition to her academic interests, Mary works with high school and elementary school students teaching arts classes each summer. She hopes to help aspiring students find a major and path that suits them, and respects interests both academic and extracurricular.

In addition to SWE, she is also involved in the Alpha Omega Epsilon, volunteers with Madison House and the SPCA, and does research. Her hobbies include hiking, cooking, and going UVA basketball games

Outside of SWE, Raeann is Program Director of From Student to Scientist (FSTS) through Madison House. If she can help young kids realize there's a place for them in the space industry, then she will have had a fulfilling collegiate and professional career.

Erin is a second year systems engineering major from Charlottesville, Virginia. She enjoys working with younger students and has helped organize educational camps, worked with tutoring groups, and spent a semester researching Pre-K education with a group of her peers. She hopes to be able to pursue this passion further in her post-grad life. In her free time she enjoys swimming, crafting, and almost anything outdoors!

Aubrey is a second year biomedical engineering major from Purcellville Virginia. She loves actively contributing to the UVA community, primarily through volunteering through Madison House, acting as a ULink peer advisor, serving on the executive board for Women in STEM, and editing for the Oculus, an undergraduate research journal. She strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all on grounds. In her free time, she loves to play trombone with the Cavalier Marching Band and attend as many basketball games as she can!

Web Designer - Clara Kim

Maintains this website and helps out the other executive members with events and programs. Also works with officers (mainly outreach) to establish timeline of when updates made to website relative to certain events.

Clara is a second year computer science major from Herndon, VA. In her next years at UVA, she hopes to pursue a math minor as well. Outside of SWE, she has played in the First Year Player's pit orchestra and is involved with the Student Game Developers.
