Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.

             "The Society of Women Engineers at UVA is a professional organization that aims to support and promote women in achieving their full potential in engineering careers. The SWE section at UVA has three areas of focus: outreach, professional development, and community building. SWE at UVA has outreach programs for girls at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, all of which aim to inspire interest in engineering fields through hands-on activities, design challenges, tours, and speakers. This past weekend SWE hosted 135 high school students on Grounds for the biannual High School Visitation event put on successfully with the efforts of dedicated executive members, committee members, and volunteers. SWE also conducts Middle School Visitation in spring and Girl Scout Science Engineering and Exploration Day in the fall"
